Other attractions
Alton Towers is home to many more rides and attractions than the ones I've detailed on their own pages. Here is an overview of some of the best.

RITA - coming in 2005!

Project RITA - an Intamin launched coaster, 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Possibly racing-themed. Will it be a rocket coaster (Alton Towers Intamin Rocketcoaster), an Aquatrax, or Intamin's take on the motorbike/steeplechase coaster? We'll have to wait and see!

Spinball Whizzer

New for 2004! Take a spin on this coaster to see what it feels like to be the shiny metallic ball inside a pinball machine. This custom Maurer Söhne spinning coaster has proved to be a huge hit. Yes, the car seats 4 people back-to-back and spins throughout its extremely twisted course. It's a great deal of fun and provides lots of laughs, but rest assured it's no scary ride and all the family can enjoy it.

Congo River Rapids

An Intamin river rapids ride, cut into deep rocks at some points, and nicely landscaped. Unfortunately, the original Intamin six-seater boats have been replaced recently with eight-seater O.D. Hopkins boats. Better for capacity, but the new boats are very unattractive and uncomfortable and provide nowhere for you to brace yourself against the inevitable bumps.

Runaway Mine Train

A Mack powered coaster, most noteable for its intense diving corner into the same tunnel that the Rapids ride travels through.

Duel

A hi-tech Mack ghost train constructed in the early 90s but retro-fitted a decade later with an interactive laser-shooting system. The Haunted House Strikes Back. Duel with the zombies.

Terror of the Towers

A walk-through attraction with live actors, the kind of which is becoming increasingly popular, and appears only during the Halloween period. The Alton Towers version is special because it takes place in a derelict part of the Towers buildings, so like Hex it oozes atmosphere. Highlights for me over the last two years have been the girl on the front door, who both times has been an absolute star. "What do you want?" "You....in....NOW!". The 2003 incarnation of the attraction was particularly gross...

Old MacDonald's Farmyard

Not necessarily strictly for the children, Old MacDonald's Farmyard is an area with smaller rides for toddlers, themed around a farm. There is a roundabout, a boat ride, a tractor ride, and the amazingly cute Singing Barn which is guaranteed to raise a smile from old and young alike!
